The Contemplative Studies Program (CSP) offers immersive live and online learning in the ancient wisdom and practices of Tibetan Buddhism integrated with contemporary perspectives such as psychotherapy and neuroscience.
You can find out more about our story, vision, and faculty here.
What is the difference between the Contemplative Studies Program and The Essential Nectar Series?
The Contemplative Studies Program (CSP) is a life-changing program comprised of eight modular courses, over 160 hours of lectures, covering the major topics and practices of Tibet's gradual path (lam rim) teachings. Shot in hi def video from 2018-2021 it is now only available on demand here.
The Essential Nectar Series (ENS) is a live meditation program covering the same holy ground of the CSP, the path from misery to enlightenment, but emphasizes fourteen meditation topics and their real-world application.
Whereas the CSP is more of a top-down or rigorous theoretical study, the ENS is more of a bottom up or practical experience.
Ideally students will complete both for optimal integration, and one could start with either program first.
Is the Contemplative Studies Program (CSP) the right fit for me?
CSP tends to attract a student that:
Has some prior exposure to, or specific interest in, Tibetan Buddhist teachings and practices.
Is earnest, self-disciplined, and can translate short periods of instruction into self-directed learning.
Is sincere in their altruistic motivation to be of service and to benefit others.
Is interested in the cross pollination and integration of Buddhism with science and contemporary perspectives.
What is the CSP Cortyard?
CSP Courtyard is membership community designed to provide a supportive space to new and ongoing students and practitioners.
In the Courtyard you will discuss and sustain your practice with Miles, obtain peer-support, develop a new service project, and co-create new avenues to enrich our collective learning process.
Courtyard membership is recommended for anyone enrolling in the Essential Nectar Lam Rim Meditation Series or the Contemplative Studies Program.
To become a member register here.
Can I review TESTIMONIALS by CSP members?
Please read TESTIMONIALS from our program graduates and pilgrims here.
Who is Dr. Miles Neale?
Dr. Miles Neale, PsyD, is a Buddhist psychotherapist in private practice and co-founder with Allison Graham of the Contemplative Studies Program. Author of Gradual Awakening (Sounds True, 2018) and co-editor of Advances in Contemplative Psychotherapy (Routledge, 2017), Miles is a faculty member of Tibet House (US) and Weill Cornell Medical College.
With more than twenty years integrating the mind science and meditative practices of Tibetan Buddhism with psychotherapy, trauma research and neuroscience, Miles is a forerunner in the emerging field of contemplative psychotherapy, and leads pilgrimages around the Buddhist world.
What is PILGRIMAGE?
Pilgrimage is a very unique and auspicious opportunity to travel to and practice at sacred sites in the Buddhist world.
Pilgrimage is offered once a year, designed and led by Dr. Miles Neale, often with special guest teachers, and developed in partnership with leading tour operators to provide the most seamless and memorable experience.
One does not have to be a member of PRAXIS to register for pilgrimage but preference is given to those actively involved in the CSP community.
For further information, to register, or for answers to questions please follow the PILGRIMAGE link here to our partner Sacred Earth Journeys.
What is PATRON?
PATRON is our invitation to angel investors who wish to support the expansion of the CSP.
Since the beginning of the Buddha's teaching career, those with means and resources have come forward to support the mission of making Dharma teachings accessible to others.
The contributions of PATRONS exceeds the customary membership dues and allow us to develop PRAXIS, help us buildout out our online platform, invite expert guest faculty to teach innovative programs and practice sessions, execute our marketing plan to reach the right kind of earnest students, and provide scholarship opportunities for those in need.
Beyond financial support we also welcome and value PATRONS with entrepreneurial expertise to develop networks and strategic partnerships with like minded individuals and organizations.
In exchange for invaluable support we offer lifetime access to CSP content in all our future iterations.
Each year, CSP members work together to design and implement a service project allowing us to embody our altruistic aspiration.
Last year we raised nearly $20K for the Buddhist nuns of the Dorjee Zong Nunnery in Zanskar India. Beyond the finical support offered to those in need, the service opportunity allows members to find creative ways to share their talents and for the whole community to participate in a single conscious act of kindness.
Currently the Service Project for 2021 has not yet been determined.
How do I earn a CERTIFICATE?
A bespoke mantra embossed Certificate of Completion designed by famous calligrapher Tashi Mannox is awarded to any student who completes all eight modules (160+ hours) of the Contemplative Study Program now available on-demand here.
Students must engage in self-directed study, pass all eight quizzes, provide a one page reflection essay for each module, and maintain a consistent meditation practice following our curriculum.
All eight modules in the two-year program qualify for non contact continuing education credits for Yoga Alliance.
